Go Green

Being organized not only means that you have de-cluttered all the unnecessary objects in your home, but that you are efficiently and cost-effectively utilizing the ones you do want and need. Being green means keeping an eye on waste and consumption. Keeping consumption down is good for the mind, body and house! No one can go 100% green in one day, but doing some simple things each day, week, or month is a step in the right direction.

Bathroom Tips

Tips on going green in the home that people may not think of:

  1. Buy organic or recycled products including make-up, shampoo etc.. Go to EWG.org to find the most eco-friendly products. Hygiene products are not regulated by the FDA and contain toxins that may cause cancer and skin irritation. The use and disposal of such chemicals in the production of products is harmful to the environment.
  2. Unplug the hairdryer, electric toothbrush, curling iron etc. to avoid "vampire energy use." Almost 10% of residential electricity is used when appliances are off. Unplugging stops the wasteful drain of energy.
  3. Buy organic cotton balls and swabs at VeganEssentials.com. Regular cotton production uses 25% of all pesticides used in the country!
  4. Use containers, dishes and bowls that you already have in the house to contain makeup, hair bands, tweezers and clippers, creams etc.
  5. Turn off water when brushing teeth or shaving.
  6. Check for leaky faucets or toilets. A leaky toilet can waste 200 gallons per day!
  7. Install faucet and hose aerators to limit excessive flow and install low flow shower heads (they actually give off more pressure!) A family of four could save 14,000 gallons of water a year with a low flow showerhead.
